Grocery Budget Calculator
Estimate weekly and monthly grocery costs and track them against a target.
A grocery budget works when it is built from what you actually buy rather than a national average. List your regular items with their prices and quantities and the calculator turns them into weekly, monthly and per-person figures.
Set a target and the tool shows how far over or under you are. Your list is saved in your browser only, so you can come back and adjust it.

How it works
- Add items with a price, a quantity and how often you buy them (weekly, every two weeks or monthly).
- Totals are normalised to a week and a month (4.33 weeks), with optional sales tax applied to taxable items.
- Enter household size and a target budget to see cost per person and the gap to your target.
Worked example: a two-person household
Twelve regular items totalling $94.20 a week come to about $408 a month, or $204 per person. Against a $350 target that is $58 over — and the calculator shows which three items account for most of the gap, which is usually where to look for a bulk pack or a cheaper unit price.
Grocery Budget Calculator — questions
Is my list saved?
It is saved in your browser's local storage on this device only. Clearing site data removes it. Nothing is sent to MyShopperBuddy.
Should I include tax?
Most US states exempt unprepared groceries from sales tax but tax prepared food, soft drinks and household goods. Mark items taxable individually if that applies where you live.
How is a month calculated?
As 4.33 weeks (52 weeks divided by 12 months), which is more accurate than four weeks.
What is a reasonable grocery budget?
It depends on where you live, your diet and household size. Rather than quote a national figure that may not apply, build the budget from your real items and adjust from there.
Can I export the list?
Use your browser's print function on this page to get a printable copy; the calculator layout is print-friendly.
How can I lower the total?
Sort by weekly cost and look at the top items first. The Unit Price and Bulk Savings calculators help check whether a larger pack or a different brand is cheaper per unit.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Fields are sized for touch and the table scrolls sideways on small screens.
