Unit Price Calculator

Compare dollars per ounce, pound, kilogram or count across 2–4 products.

Shelf tags and product listings make price-per-unit hard to compare: one jar is priced per ounce, another per pound, a third per 100 grams. This calculator converts all of them to the same unit so the cheapest option is obvious.

Use it for spices, coffee, cleaning supplies, pet food, vitamins — anything sold by weight, volume or count. It works entirely in your browser; nothing is sent to us.

How it works

  1. Enter each product's shelf price and its package size, choosing the unit printed on the package (oz, lb, g, kg, fl oz, ml, L or count).
  2. Weights are converted to ounces, volumes to fluid ounces and counts stay as counts, then price is divided by size.
  3. The lowest unit price is highlighted and the others show how much more per unit they cost. Weight and volume are not compared against each other because they are different measures.

Worked example: ground cumin

A 2 oz jar at $4.99 costs $2.50 per ounce. A 16 oz bag at $12.99 costs $0.81 per ounce — 67% less per ounce. The bigger bag wins on unit price, but only if you will use a pound of cumin before it loses its aroma, which is roughly a year for ground spices. That is why the Bulk Savings Calculator asks how fast you use a product.

Unit Price Calculator — questions

What is a unit price?

The price of one standard unit of a product — one ounce, one pound, one litre or one item — found by dividing the package price by the package size. It lets you compare packages of different sizes fairly.

Which unit should I use?

Use the unit printed on the package; the calculator converts everything to a common base. For dry goods ounces and pounds are standard in the US; for liquids use fluid ounces, millilitres or litres.

Can I compare weight to volume?

No. An ounce (weight) and a fluid ounce (volume) are different measures, and the conversion depends on the product's density. The calculator compares weight products with weight products and volume products with volume products.

Does the lowest unit price always mean the best buy?

Not always. A large package is only a saving if you use it before it spoils or loses quality, and some products are cheaper per unit in a bundle you did not need. Check shelf life and how fast you use the product.

How do I handle multipacks?

Enter the total size of all packs together — three 4 oz jars is 12 oz — and the total price of the multipack.

Are prices entered here stored anywhere?

No. The calculator runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to MyShopperBuddy.

Where do the product suggestions under the calculator come from?

They are partner-brand products sold by MyShopperBuddy, ranked by our own price per ounce for the largest pack. Prices are ours and current; we do not estimate Amazon prices.
