Spicy Pantry Fenugreek Seeds: 4 oz to 5 lb for Dals, Parathas and Masalas

About this product

Think of this as a pantry workhorse for weeknight cooking. Whole fenugreek seeds go into curries, breads and homemade spice blends, and they suit dals, parathas and masalas especially well. The flavor has three parts: a maple-like sweetness, a nutty depth and a bitter balance that keeps rich dishes from tasting flat. Because the seeds are whole, you can soak, toast or sprout them depending on the recipe.

Sizing is the main buying decision. The 4 oz pouch is a low-commitment way to try fenugreek seeds for cooking. The 12 oz size suits a regular weekly rotation. The 2 lb and 5 lb sizes are for cooks who batch-prep masalas or want bulk fenugreek seeds for home. Every size comes in a resealable stand-up kraft pouch, and the seeds are listed as Non-GMO. How to use and store

• Toast the whole seeds before adding them to a dal tadka, curry base or homemade masala blend to bring out the nutty side.
• Soak the seeds before mixing them into paratha or other bread doughs, so they go in softer.
• Sprout the seeds if you want to use them in a different style of dish. Start with a small amount in any recipe so the bitter note stays balanced.
